acupuncture benefits

TCM acupuncture is a form of alternative Chinese traditional medicine, In this medicine, thin needles are inserted into the body skin, depends on the patient's problem. There is a diverse range of acupuncture theories based on different philosophies and techniques vary depending on the country.

It is most often used for pain relief, though it is also used for a wide range of other conditions like weight loss, migraine & so on.

Acupuncture is generally used only in combination with other forms of treatment, which means if you are interested to try it for weight loss, you need to combine it with a healthy, balanced diet.

Acupuncture could be effective in treating pain in a long-term treatment.

Acupuncture is generally safe when done by an appropriately trained practitioner using clean needle technique and single-use needles.

The practice of acupuncture to treat identifiable disease & conditions in American medicine was rare until the visit of President Richard M. Nixon to China in 1972. Since that time, there has been an explosion of interest in the United States and Europe in the application of the technique of acupuncture to Western medicine.

Here are current thoughts from the National Institutes of Health on the manner by which acupuncture might produce beneficial health results;

Many studies in animals and humans have demonstrated that acupuncture can cause multiple biological responses. These responses can occur locally, or close to the site of application, or at a distance, mediated mainly by sensory neurons to many structures within the central nervous system. This can lead to activation of pathways affecting various physiological systems in the brain as well as in the periphery. A focus of attention has been the role of endogenous opioids in acupuncture analgesia. Considerable evidence supports the claim that opioid peptides are released during acupuncture and that the analgesic effects of acupuncture are at least partially explained by their actions. That opioid antagonist such as naloxone reverse the analgesic effects of acupuncture further strengthens this hypothesis. Stimulation by acupuncture may also activate the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland, resulting in a broad spectrum of systemic effects. Alteration in the secretion of neurotransmitters and neurohormones and changes in the regulation of blood flow, both centrally and peripherally, have been documented. There is also evidence that there are alterations in immune functions produced by acupuncture. Which of these and other physiological changes mediate clinical effects is at present unclear.

Although much remains unknown regarding the mechanisms that might mediate the therapeutic effect of acupuncture, it is encouraging that a number of significant acupuncture-related biological changes can be identified and carefully delineated.

Furthermore, I was thinking about giving it a chance and try to understand how does this traditional medicine works. In our modern life, even treatments changed & all of us choose the easier way which means taking the pills instead of the effective & harmless way.

Dr. Wei who studied Chinese traditional medicine at Shanghai university believes that acupuncture can be a cure for our modern life's problems & pains.

Regarding this aim, she helps me to try this new medicine which is new to European culture but as old as a country's history.

For weight loss reason, she suggested me to have 7 to 10 session, once a week, which means we will see a result in 2 months. Beside this sessions, I have a balanced diet & a personal trainer which you can follow the training on their official website & on Likeittotaste's Instagram page.

You can follow me with these step by step acupuncture experience & diary that I will write each session.

7th session

Today is my 7th session. During last week, I felt good and I had no problem. Dr.Wei started to put needles in my ears this week but no more needles on my body. The pain was crazy. On some point, I wanted to cry. However, she explained to me I have a problem in my digestion area and that's why it's hurting. Today, the experience was really painful but I think its totally right and with doctor's prescription and a blood test, I can solve my problem. I don't crave for sugar like before and that makes me feel more comfortable. I think sugar can be really addictive. At first, can cause you headaches or stress but after a few days, it will be different. You will more energize and feel better.

What I am sure about acupuncture is, the ancient medicine worked pretty well and people lived better since everything was less complicated, so, we need to trust it & stop taking different chemical pills for our problems.

6th session

This week everything went well. I have stopped eating sugar for a detox. I feel better. At first was difficult and I have got headaches then I went to my acupuncturing session. Dr. Wei asked me about my week and I told her about the elimination of the sugar then she cleaned my ears with alcohol to add needles. She explained to me that my skin got better which means with acupuncturing I had a progress. I had needles in my both ears, one new spot also, on my hands and on my feet. Then relax for 30 minutes as always.

Did you know that acupuncture can treats :

  • muscle spasms and pain

  • chronic back problems and pain

  • headaches, including reducing the frequency and intensity of migraines

  • neck pain

  • osteoarthritis

  • knee pain

  • allergies

  • digestive problems

  • mood, depression

Besides these, many people choose acupuncture when they can feel their bodily functions are out of balance, but they have no obvious diagnosis. And many have regular treatments because they find it so beneficial and relaxing. I think I would like to know more about this ancient Chinese medicine. I will let you know also:).

5th session

This week was a bit confusing, I was so busy with my life and work and I had to pay attention to eat well as well, which is the most difficult thing. I slept well and felt well. This acupuncture makes me feel so good and relaxes when I have the session. This Friday, as other sessions I have talked about mt feeling during the last week then the treatment start. Dr. Wei (China) explained to me that already I have a better situation than the start point. I needed fewer needles in my ear. I had pain in my ears but not a lot, I just lay down for 30 minutes and felt so relaxed as always. This week I have read more about this amazing Chinese treatment online, it makes me more surprised to see how people reacted and somehow changed their lives.

Lynn Wei has many articles about acupuncturing which you can read more by clicking on this link below.

4th session

felt tired and stressed. I had a busy busy week and had guests also who came to visit Brussels. I went to my 4th acupuncture session. Dr.Wei (from China) welcomed me warmly as always. I think she iToday, has tired also after a busy week. She asked me about my feelings during the week. I didn't sleep well for at least 3 nights and I had some breakouts on my face. However, something weird happened. I wasn't craving sugar!!! Even sometimes, I didn't feel hungry to eat but it was lunch or dinner time. I was pretty shocked.

She told me these are all good news and she puts some needles on my ear, on my hands and on my feets. She used more because of my skin problem. Oh god, It was painful. 30 minutes passed quickly and she took them all. I felt a kind of a headache and I barely could felt my body weight. I said goodbye and came home. After 30, 40 minutes, again I felt so relax. I wasn't stressed and thanks god I slept like a baby at night. Does any of you have tried acupuncture before? If you have tried or you would like to try step by step like me please share your experience with me. I would like to know if everyone experiences the same thing as I am doing or it is different for each person. Anyway, I am impatient to understand more about this method. See you next week :) .

3rd session

Yesterday, I had an accident at the gym. My right leg had a small problem during the exercises and I can move it with difficulty. I went to the medical center and I've explained to her what happened to me.  She asked me about my mood, craving sugar, and digestion and if I slept well or not. I wasn't craving sugar like the first week and everything went well also. She skipped my leg and only put needles in my hands and in my both ears. It was so painful and she explained that my leg problem it is a cause, my body is hurt and this pain is the reaction. After the needles again the beautiful Chinese relaxation music. It feels so good and relaxes.  I think I slept a few minutes also. Dr. Wei always gives you a relaxed mood, in the way she talks to you, you will feel calm.

After 30 minutes, as always she came to remove my needles and put stickers on the points in my right ear this week. For the moment I didn't lose any weight but I feel so better than 3 weeks ago.

2nd session

Today was my 2nd session to try this medicine. I went to the medical center, she welcomed me warmly and asked me some questions about the week passed, like how did I feel, how was my sleeping & so on. The most difficult part was I was craving sugar the last 2 days and it was so difficult for me to handle it. I was sleeping so well, however, I felt a pain on my neck which I've never experienced it before.

I was lying down and she put the needles in my left ear. Each week she changes the ears. She used a lot of needles, some of them were painful, some of them not. During the 30 minutes relaxing, I couldn't stop thinking. I couldn't focus on relaxation.

She came and took off all the needles. I asked her why she used more needles and she replied because of the efficiency of this cure.

After this session, again I had the relaxing feeling but I felt pain in my ear also. Still trying to understand how does it work and why it has pain and such a feeling...Maybe I will understand after 2 months...

1st session

Today is my first session of trying acupuncture medicine. Honestly, I had stress, but I am not sure how it will go. I went to Dr.Wei 's (From China ) clinic in Avenue Louise. She welcomed me warmly & showed me around & explained to me that she will use some needles in my ears and some points on my body. I was lying down on the bed & she has started the acupuncture in my ears. She mentioned that depends on the people, and the conditions, she decides how many needles are needed. For me, it was a lot...

I was thinking about everything except pain, but it was painful. She told me normally, patients have pain for the first session because the body is not familiar with the system & pain is the natural reaction of our body.Even some patients can feel a headache during the first session.

After needles in my ear, she put one needle on my each foot and on my each hand also.

I was lying for half an hour with a Chinese relaxation music. I can't admit that I had pain and i couldn't focus on my relaxation. Besides that, It was my Bday and I had a lot of plan to do after. I was thinking about a lot of things except relaxation.

After 30 min she came and took the needles off, the feeling was weird. I didn't know it was pain or relief. I came home, sat for 10 min & suddenly after I had a feeling of walking on the clouds.

I was so relaxed & felt so good. Normally, I have this feeling after a massage & spa. Such a relaxing mood. The only thing I wanted to do was to go to my bed and sleep for the rest of the night.

How can pain cause this relaxation? Why I felt so good after?

I have all these questions in my mind and looking forward to trying the 2nd session  & let you know what will happen :).
