Cheese ball with pomegranates and pistachio

« Yalda » night is a beautiful ancient Persian celebration. We are celebrating the longest and darkest night of the year (22nd of December). People usually gather in groups of friends and relatives and find ways to pass the long night together in good company. They read the poem (Hafez), eat pomegranate & watermelon. As I mentioned, during this night people also read « Hafez » poetry. You probably wonder why Hafez? We believe in Hafez as much as believing in God. We make a wish, open a book of « Hafez » and the first poem they see is the interpretation of the wish and whether and how it will come true.

To make a long story short, I made this recipe for our Yalda celebration tonight. It’s like a jewel on your table. You can even make it for your Christmas dinner table.


  • 150 gr cream cheese

  • 150 gr goat cheese

  • 1/4 cup chives

  • 1/4 cup crushed walnuts

  • Salt & pepper

  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds

  • 1 tbsp crushed pistachios


In a bowl, add your cream cheese, chives, and walnuts. Mix it well.

Shape the cheese with your hand and put it in a kitchen paper.

Keep it in the fridge for 20 minutes until it’s firmed.

Take off the cheese from the fridge and on a tray, add your pomegranate seeds.

Use your finger to attach pomegranate seeds to the cheese ball.

All the end, add some pistachio for garnishing.

Serve it with small toasts.
